In the company of my father, who’s been taken down the road by Rush to become someone who lacks complete trust in humanity except for those Rush sanctions: Fox News, the Republican Party, etc.
He really believes that crap Rush spews...so sad. Rush was able to take the white male angst over changing socio-economic conditions and changing power structures in the US and turn it into a political movement that took the legislative branch and began handing over the government to the corporations (privatization) and dismantling the social safety net (Personal Responsibility Act) all because Rush convinced these displaced white males that 1. Government is bad, and 2. People using government programs are lazy (esp. the black welfare queens who keep having kids you have to pay for).
The wealthy are laughing themselves silly at our expense while taking huge chunks of our economy for themselves (ie - laughing all the way to the bank). Fortunately people many people may be starting to wake up about this, and with the far rights political influence waning, maybe we can reverse this trend.

Gonzales v. Planned Parenthood
The right will argue that this ruling is about saving babies. It is not. If the right cared about eliminating abortion, they would be working hard to guarantee access to contraception and family planning services for every American and encouraging comprehensive sexual education that includes instructions on how to avoid pregnancy. They do not. This is an attack on the right of a woman to determine the course of her own life and an attempt by a small percentage of Americans to impose their view of morality on the rest of society.
John, John The Millers Son
Look, I supported Edwards initially because of his stances on many issues, but the 10,000 sq. ft. house really put me off. You're running on a campaign of a two America's, one rich and one poor, and you BUILD a 10,000 sq. ft. house, while you are working on poverty issues, and the running on poverty issues? Regardless of any other considerations, whether you think it is right or wrong to own a 10,000 sq. ft. house for one small family, politically it is discrediting when your campaign is ABOUT the two America's. Yeah, there are two Americas, and he's really, really enjoying it???
The hair cut is just another example of poor campaign decisions and this election is too important to take any chances.

Go Gonzo, Go!
How much fun did I have watching Gonzo squirm ?
Yesterday's testimony by Gonzales was just so indicative of the morality of the Bush administration. No accountability. Blame it on someone else. The buck gets passed...

Ever Heard of Foundation for the Future?
Well Paul Wolfowitz certainly has. His girlfriend Shaha Riza was hired there after leaving the World Bank. Wolfowitz, you'll remember, is president of the World Bank, an organization that entices developing nations to take on policies that help corporations, um, I mean the poor, indigenous populations, by "opening" their countries up free-trade style. Well, it seems that Wolfowitz, as reported in the Washington Post by AL KAMEN and Salon by AP Economics Writer JEANNINE AVERSA, got Ms. Riza (what great names, Shaha Riza and Wolfowitz), an Arab feminist at whose home he'd been spending time as reported in the Washington Post in 2005.
The great pandora's box of scandal that is the Bush Adminsitration seems to be spewing its contents everywhere these days.
Well the folks at the World Bank are pissed. They want Wolfowitz to resign. They do have standards.

Don Done
In a triumph for intelligent discourse, CBS has just joined MSNBC in firing Don Imus. To all those who whine about first ammendment rights (come on now, you know you just want to wink at that racism), remember, just because you can say something doesn't mean you should. Just as Imus has the right to utter garbage, so to do millions of Americans have the right to contact MSNBC & CBS sponsors urging them not to support such drivel!
Now if only CBS could elevate its discourse by doing something about Katie Couric (like maybe making her write her own "commentary")...

The VA, Walter Reed & "Heck of a Job"
In another one of W's "heck of a job, Brownie" moments, Salon's Mark Benjamin reported yesterday that Michael Kussman, whom the White House reported on April 4 was to be nominated to undersecretary of the VA, was the commander in charge of Walter Reed in the 1990s and co-chaired a committee charged with ascertaining the health care needs of veterans. A report authored by the committee in 2004 contained stories of dissatisfaction with the current system and indicated a need for major improvements. The report was delivered to top VA officials.
Florida Arrests Kindergartener for Tantrum
Just in at Slate...the State of Florida has arrested six year old Desre'e Watson at Avon Park Elementary for throwing a temper tantrum. Can you imagine the terror this little girl went through as the police dragged her out from under the table, cuffed her, put her in a squad car and took her to the county jail? The funny thing is, there were people on Slate DEFENDING the actions of the police and the school...unbelievable!I'll be watching the wires for the seven year old on the loose for pulling his sister's hair...
